Concept of Redesign of the Toronto Maple Leafs App

Design Statement

As an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs I’m always looking at my phone to see the score of the game however when I do this I often do it in the Sportsnet up. I realize that I use the Sportsnet app because I find the Toronto Maple Leafs app confusing and hard to find the information I need. If I was having trouble figuring out the site, I figured other users would as well. For this product I wanted to redesign the application to make it more user-friendly and to give an amazing fan base a product they would be proud to call theirs.

USer Research

In order to understand what the main problem of the app were I conducted user research. I used reviews from google and the Apple App Store to see what real users were saying about the app. This allowed me to understand the main goals of the user for this application.

Design evaluation

Schedule
  • I think a user would like that you have the next game that the
leafs are going to play at the bottom this would allow the user to see the main reason why
you would look at a schedule
  • easy to tell which ones are the home games but hard to tell which ones are they away games and also the schedule doesn't have any clear lines of splitting what date is which so this could confuse the user.
Tickets
  • overall really decent design easy to tell what your tickets are and easy to figure out where you can buy tickets
  • tickets is very hard to find though
  • I would definitely put it underneath the fan category.
Settings
  • Lots of things in the settings that you can see through the NAV
  • To get back to the home page is frustrating and confusing
  • Very repetitive
Arena
  • Like the top menu of parking, route, bag policy and Arena map
  • Like the vaccine policy and the back in action.
  • Like that the tickets is up is that would be easiest for the user to show
  • Like the arena wait times as well as the option to get food delivered to your seat.
  • To buy tickets seems a little weird since users would most likely already have their tickets if they're in the
    arena section
Team
  • Like the leaders as most users would wonder who they are
  • Like the top part of the players the photo, name, position, height, weight, draft, born, age and shoots
  • Like the section underneath that shows goals, assist, points and plus minus
  • Everything else feels really chaotic and feels like just extra information for example if somebody really
wanted to do that much of a deep dive it's
probably a better idea to go onto the NHL website to see everything as a whole
  • Skater is not a position in hockey
  • Has a category called born but there is no info in it, user most likely would want to see where a player is from
Game Time
  • I like the top part but a little confused why the season two is right on Carlton
  • Upcoming match up is great just would make the font a white and bigger so it's more readable play games and prizes
  • None of the colours on the page are the same

Persona

Ideas to Better User Experience

  • Add a layer of personalization - for example add the players they like and have their Scores/points
  • Real time gameplay - to keep the fan updated on the game at all times
  • Add coverage of the game - for example have the app notify the user when there is a goal, as a notification and directly in the app as well
  • Direct links - to game feeds and radio for best
    User experience
  • Add a game feed - so that when the game is going on there is game highlights of that
    current game
  • Added a ticket page - to show user there tickets and they can have the ticket right in
    the app
  • Added a ticket page - to show user there tickets and they can have the ticket right in
    the app
